Position Summary

The Senior Legal Counsel position is based in Heredia, Costa Rica, and will support Bridgestone's operations in Costa Rica and report directly to the Central America Legal Manager, who is also based in Costa Rica, and working in together with the Team in Latin America North. The candidate must have proven experience drafting and negotiating commercial, marketing and manufacturing supplier contracts and have a strong background in commercial law, corporate law, labor/civil/commercial litigation, labor law, data privacy, ethics & compliance. The Senior Legal Counsel will be involved in complex commercial transactions and critical negotiations of operational contracts in Costa Rica and America Central. She/He will advise and support on commercial, corporate and labor matters, among other responsibilities, to all the operations in Costa Rica (Business, Manufacturing, Share Service Center, Free Trade Zone, and other Departments of Bridgestone in the Region). The Senior Legal Counsel will also be responsible for maintaining the Bridgestone Global Ethics & Compliance Program through training and activities across different business units in Costa Rica & America Central. She/He will coordinate, perform, and accompany audits, as well as actively participate in internal investigations. The Senior Legal Counsel must always act with integrity, engage comfortably in difficult conversations with the different areas of the Company, and identify and address legal matters professionally and promptly. The Senior Legal Counsel must know how to interact with Law Firms in the region, controlling the budget while ensuring that the matters entrusted to them are followed up on and that the level of response received is adequate in terms of both time and quality of analysis in relation to the company's interests. We are looking for a Team Player. (Non-management position)

Responsibilities
  • Be part of a diverse team of lawyers in Latin America North and part of a Regional Law Department in LA & America.
  • Serve as a Strategic & Trusted Business Partner to each Area of the Company by providing continuous counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications of business initiatives, including ethics & compliance standards.
  • Assist with commercial, marketing and procurement contracts, as well as employment matters.
  • Support litigation (collections, labor, civil, claims) including working effectively with outside counsel.
  • Drafting, tracking, and managing corporate reports
  • Oversee the internal administrative processes (principally payments and Law Firm controls)
  • Implement and constantly seek tools to improve legal processes.
  • Responsible for the department's internal administrative processes at the local level.
  • Support the company’s Compliance Program, including supporting investigations relating to alleged or actual violations of the Code of Conduct and providing education and training to the business on best practices for compliance and ethics.
  • Be an effective and timely communicator with the Law Department, the other functions and the business teams.
  • Provide succinct and business friendly updates of matters under his/her scope.
Minimun Qualifications
  • Licensed to practice law in Costa Rica.
  • Minimum of seven to ten years’ experience in the legal profession, ideally between both a law firm and a multi-national corporate legal environment.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
  • Exposure to the following areas of law: commercial law, procurement law, employment & labor relations, claims/litigation management and anticorruption.
  • Experience supporting legal matters and working with outside counsel in Costa Rica.
  • Experience with cost-effective management of outside legal resources.
  • Experience representing a corporate entity to a variety of governmental authorities.
  • Master's degree in commercial or corporate law (Optional).
  • Experience as Public Notary.
